Biochar is a specialized, charcoal-like substance produced by burning timber in a sustainable and low-oxygen environment. Modern biochar is inspired by Terra Preta (Amazonian Dark Earths), fertile soils created by indigenous populations thousands of years ago that remain productive today. Unlike fresh organic matter that decomposes quickly, biochar can sequester carbon in the soil for centuries (often exceeding 1,000 years).

Our Biochar is created from sustainably sourced wood, including reclaimed timber downed during Hurricane Helene. By repurposing this wood, we’re helping clean up and reduce fire risk in Western North Carolina while turning a natural disaster into a long-term benefit for our local soil.
